Lola's Cupcake Costume!

This year we are taking Lola to Pugfest! It's on Saturday the 30th at the Gwinnett County Fair Grounds. I made her costume this week and I am super excited about it! It was so simple and only took an hour or two. I'll walk you through it!

What you will need:
  • 5 colors of felt (in 11x14)
  • Buttons
  • Ribbon
  • A red poof ball (about 1" diameter)
  • Fabric Edging
  • Needle and thread
  • A sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Hot or tacky glue

So start buy cutting your first color of felt (this will be the cake part) into strips about 1.5" x 11" with a pointed top. You will need 10 to 12 for a pug sized dog. Sew them or hot glue them together overlapping a little more at the bottom to create that cupcake shape. Then cut a strip about 1" thick in the second color for the trim on the bottom. Attach buttons or whatever you think is cute for embellishment.

Then take two of your sheets of the second color felt and sew them together long ways. Cut an opening in the middle for the head and then cut the edges to create the icing. Do this one more time making it slightly smaller so that it can sit on top of the first. Then embellish it with 1.5" diameter circle cut outs in three different colors and some small buttons. Now take the fabric edging and sew or hot glue all the layers (1st icing layer, 2nd icing layer and fabric edging) together.

Finally we will make the hat. This is optional seeing as most dogs mine included will hardly wear it long enough to take a picture. Any-who take your final color of felt and cut it into a circle like shape. Attach the red poof ball with hot glue and sew ribbon to the sides.

And there you have it a Cupcake dog costume. Simple, fast and most importantly too cute!
